Drowning in Details

October 5th, 2007 at 01:28 pm

I can't imagine how I thought I was going to get a job after moving to moms. I remember inquiring about a couple....one even full time! HA. Where would I find the time is the question of the day....

I've been lashed to the phone and/or the PC all day. And, I had an EARLY start. Mom was up by 5AM, so, therefore was I.

Handled the car insurance question for me.......and also made arrangements for all the old cable/modem equipment to be picked up so I can get my credit they owe me. Paid bills, helped mom finish the paperwork for the last (hopefully) visit to the tax guy for 2006.

Tenants are moved out of my other house, not the one with the room mate situation. Taking pictures of the house & property to list them.....hoping to do the listing myself.

Have my name on all of moms insurance information/policies now, so I can deal with anything that comes up.

I've got a mile long list of errands to do today too........waiting for mom to take a nap, then I'm taking her with me. I can do all the in and out stuff, she can just go for the ride.

Now that this is in writing, it seems like I should have got more accomplished! Poo. Feels like I've been busy all day...... I'm so grateful I'm at a place in my life I can just step into moms and take over. If I was working.........my mind would be a mess, thinking of what was going on at home!

Just an idea for your rental property - list on Craigslist! We did (without pictures) and spent $0 on advertising. We were also able to do comparisons on rent prices. Took us two weeks to rent and we ended up charging $200 more than we thought we could get! Good luck!

If you are handling things for your Mom and are to be her mainstay, make sure that all her doctors, dentists, etc have a record of her consent to for them to talk to you about matters both medical and financial. Have her add anyone else to the consent forms that should be, too. If the two of you should be in accident together and you are not able to take care of things, you might want someone else to be able to be informed.

Joan.of.the.Arch: Thanks for the idea of adding a 3rd party to our emergency contacts. I've got just the person in mind, will add her just as soon as I've confirmed the details with her.
I am making the other changes as things come up here. Each time we go somewhere for a meeting or appointment, I add my name as well as contact them & inform them to be sure they talk to both of us at this point. If messages or calls come just for mom (or mail for that matter) it doesn't always make it through to me.
Each bill that gets paid I'm handling the same way. Shouldn't be too long before I get them all done. Just in time for me to do address changes for all of them!! (hopefully)

madhaus90: I did advertise my property on Craigslist, but the neighbor saw people walking the acreage & he called making an offer. The other pieces I've got my son doing the comps on them, as he is inching his way into a real estate career & works with several offices full of agents and a LLC bunch of investors. The idea is we're going to put together a package ourselves & present it to the investors. It is fairly attractive, 2 tax parcels, acreage and just barely off a state highway, so it should flip over to commercial .......maybe 10 years?? And, it has 2 rental homes there now....so it could hold it's own while someone waited patiently.
I am a firm believer in CL........I definately like the price!! Smile
