Slash Your Grocery Bills

April 19th, 2006 at 08:07 pm

Catchy title huh?? It's on the current cover of Womens' Day magazine. I have a free issue for some reason........when I picked it up this AM I went right to page 158 , anxious to Slash MY Grocery Bill.

Turns out it is a quiz, it starts off with.............

We all like to think that we're on top of our game each time we head down those food ailes...... These tips will save you big money the next time you shop. (I'm getting pulled in here......ready for the big tips!!)

FIRST QUESTION
Dinner in a Pinch;
1) You need an easy, cheap dinner that can be ready in less than 30 minutes. So, you head for_____________

(I've only got one answer here, My Pantry)
I couldn't believe the choices offered

-deli
-freezer case
-dairy case
-the phone for chinese take out

Gads, no tips here. The rest of the quiz was just as bad. No slashing involved.
I wouldn't want the grocery bill that came from following their tips either! I need to go look up the definition of slash!!

I read that yesterday. It was even more useless than their usual articles on how to save money. The only slashing I wanted to do was to the pages of the article. Though it did get me thinking about going back to OAMC, something I haven't done since before the first surgery a few years ago. OAMC is a real way to save money in my opinion, that you will probably never see in WD.

Maybe we should get together and write an article for them...we have great tips here!

I love the idea of OAMC, but have never done a session like the book advocates. I've done what the authors term mini sessions........and love that plan.
My best plan for our household is to always cook more than one meal at a time...........consistantly "banking" extra meals into the freezer. A painless way to be prepared for anything here.

Flash......... Articles from the group......hmmm nice idea, but I'll bet the editors at Womens Day woulnd't believe us!! Smile

I was very disappointed in the article too, and agree they really could get some tips from us experts on the frontline of saving! I got a free subscription to WD, and so far am glad it's free. (With so many free issues going out, maybe we're getting what we 'paid' for - ha!)

I, too, cook extra and throw it into the freezer. Very handy 'fast food'!

I know you got the magazine for free, but for anyone who pays full price at the newsstand (gasp!) - one more reason not to!

Retire @ 50 mentioned she likes to cut out all the coupons from the magazines. THERES a great way to save money on your grocery bill! Wonder if they thought of that one?

Years ago I was getting WD, yes one printed in America. I still have many copies of it now around the house but I will not pay the price for it now too! Over $7.00 a copy here. As for OAMC in WD they call it Investment Cooking, ' Cook once , eat for week - 46 meals in under 4 hours' chicken. or 'Cook once, eat for days -54 serving in 3 hours' ground beef. I did modified it for single cooking which I got 22 single meals for ground beef.
